2006-2008

The PATI R. MORAN and her sisters, built at Washburn & Doughty Shipyard, in Boothbay, Maine, are 5100 HP AT/B tugs equipped with the Intercon "C" coupler. Designed to fit the same barge notches as the OT&BE engineered coupler refits on the BARNEY and SCOTT TURECAMO, the ATLANTIC IV class tugs represent a slightly smaller design than the ATLANTIC III, fitted with a full forecastle to create more room, and maintains the efficient single chine hull design of the III, with a slightly narrower beam of 36’.

These tugs are fully SOLAS certified, with EMD 12 cylinder 645 F block engines and Lufkin gears. They now work with new barges built by Bay Shipbuilding for Moran, similar in design to the GEORGIA and NEW HAMPSHIRE, delivered in the past 2 years. The tug’s hull design was conceived to make it easier to build than her larger ATLANTIC II Class sisters, yet at 36’ beam, the tug can handle as much as 6000 BHP.

The tug, like All OT&BE designs, has a spill-proof fuel transfer system, exceptionally large rudders for stellar maneuverability, and a special arrangement of tanks, structure and hull shape that allows the relatively small hull to have excellent stability characteristics, even in higher horsepowers.
